The story in the beginning goes against everything you want to read in a romance, but I read the descriptions and am not new to Small’s books, like I said several times. But I felt like the whole book was rushed and areas of the storyline, which probably should have each been dedicated a good portion of the book itself, were just skimmed over way too much. It is the shocking murder of her husband that allows her to find the possibility of love at last.
There were entire areas of the plotline which could have made for beautiful, rich, intriguing plotline which could have really set up each and every cha I actually liked it overall. Large in scope and heated, even sizzling, with passion— Fifty Shades has nothing on Small—Bianca harkens back to the style, sweep and sensuality that this beloved author is known for creating.
Small never holds back on the evil of others, so the beginning of the book shows in vivid terms the perversions of Rovere. In the end, I would not personally have taken the same stand with my daughter but I did relate to her. Bertrice Small puts a lot of historical detail in her books, and in that time, a girl was ready for marriage at age 12 or The dialogue does not flow in a natural way.
It is impossible to not notice how well versed and talented she is.
As Amir was of the Ottoman empire, he had more than one wife. I am a huge Bertrice Small fan. I know this is just a story, but really.
Again, nothing distasteful there as it was culturally accurate. Conflicts arise and are easily settled within a page of being mentioned as the narrative trips along in a jarring way which weakens any attempt at presenting drama or tension. The prologue starts off with smapl date, but never again in the book is there another date mentioned. I would not be bsrtrice to learn things like that happened back then – I think they still have donkey shows in parts of Mexico This was not one of my favorite Small books, but it wasn’t so shocking as some of these reviews would have you believe.

Reminded me of The Borgias in the first half; second half dragged and I couldn’t wait for it to be over. The character is believable, within the context of the romance. I was drawn in by the back-cover blurb and the cover artwork.

Small writes somewhat stiffly with the tone of Anya Seton. In order to keep her far away from Sebastiano, Bianca is sent to live in a secluded villa with only a few servants. In the scenes with her lover later on, the description is very sensual and intimate. The Governess Was Wanton. I would’ve liked more romance between Bianca and Amir while they were on the island to have more depth, more of a reason why they fell in love. I should have guessed by his name but held out hope.
Bianca escapes from a terrible marriage and meets Prince Amir who has majorly different religious beliefs.
